The Springer Family |
Uriah Springer, born abt. 1796, moved to the area that is now Wetzel County about 1820. He is listed in some Wetzel County West Virginia Census' as having been born in Virginia, but may have been born in Pennsylvania, as was his wife, Lydia McDaniel, born abt. 1800.
Uriah Springer is listed on the hand-written rosters, dated 1836 & 1837, of another ancestor, James Cochran, who commanded a Company of the Virginia Militia in the Wetzel County area. Uriah received a land grant for 25 acres in Tyler County, WV on 19 May 1839 on Reader Run of Fish Creek. This is probably now Wetzel County. His military record is on order from the National Archives but may not be available because the militia units were operated locally and many of those records are not in the Archives.
The Wetzel County, WV Land Book 1846-1852, Uriah is listed as Uriah V. Springer.
