EDNA M. KRUCKEWITT GEORGE

Edna's sister, Dorothy Kruckewitt, graduated in the St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1943.

Edna and Dorothy were the daughters of Edward Kruckewitt and Clara Catherine Kornely. At the time of the 1940 Federal Census of Shaler, Allegheny County, Edward and Clara were the parents of Dorothy, 17, Edna, 14, Edward, 11, Charles, 9.

While a student nurse at St. Francis Hospital, Edna Kruckewitt participated in the U. S., World War II Cadet Nursing Corps.

On December 1, 1973, Edna M. Kruckewitt, 48, married James A. George, 44, in Sacramento, California.

The obituary erroneously states that she attended nursing school in Philadelphia. She graduated in Pittsburgh and then probably attended college in Philadelphia.

OBITUARY: Anchorage Daily News August 30, 1997 - Edna May George, 72, died Aug. 28, 1997 at the Providence Alaska Medical Center. A funeral service was at the St. Nicholas of Myra Byzantine Catholic Church, at 2200 Arctic Blvd. Interment was in the Angelus Memorial Park Cemetery. - Mrs. George was born May 1, 1925, in Pittsburgh. She graduated from high school and college, then attended nursing school in Philadelphia. She came to Alaska in 1960 and worked as a registered nurse at the hospital in Juneau for a year. In 1961, Mrs. George moved to Anchorage, where she worked at the old Providence Hospital. She then worked for different Anchorage doctors in their private practices until 1971, when she went to work for the Federal Aviation Association. She retired in 1974. Mrs. George was a member of St. Nicholas of Myra Byzantine Catholic Church. She loved the outdoors, camping, fishing and spending time with her family and grandchildren. She will be remembered as a loving, caring wife, mother and grandmother. - Mrs. George is survived by her husband, James, of Anchorage; her daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Gene Lewis; two brothers, Charles and Edward Kruckewitt; one sister, Dorothy Sanelle; three grandchildren, Warren, Aaliyan and Ariela Lewis; numerous nieces and nephews; and many good friends.
