This family emigrated from Ostran Austria Hungary in 1903.
Karel Botula arrived in Philadelphia on the ship Hannover on April 24, 1903. His wife, Johana, came with their first three children (Karola, Maxmillian and Frantiska) on the S. S. King Albert from Bremen and arrived at New York on September 5, 1903. [ellisisland.org] They settled in Cokeburg Borough, Washington County, and Karel (aka Charles) worked in the coal mines.

Charles, Son, 6 mos, b Pa.Mr. & Mrs. Botula were still in Cokeburg at the time of the 1920 census. Francis (originally "Frantiska") was listed as a student nurse at St. Francis Hospital. Francis graduated in 1922; her sister, Karola Botula, graduated in 1929. Karola was not found in the 1920 census.
Frances Elizabeth Botula married Charles B. Duffy. At the time of the 1930 census they have no children. By 1940, they had five children - Paul, George, Mary, Francis and Richard. The last two were twins.
PARENTS: Karel Botula, Pittsburgh, Pa., died Jan 15, 1949. His wife, Johanna, died in 1952.
MOTHER'S OBITUARY: Pittsburgh-Press, March 12, 1952 -- BOTULA, On Monday, March 10, 1952, at 6:15 a.m., Johanna Tofel Botula, of 3316 Ward St., wife of the late Karel Botula; mother of Mrs. C. J. O'Connell, Max K., Mrs. C. B. Duffy, Mrs. B. F. Zink, Mrs. Edward L. Wibner, Julia, Charles, and Ted Botula; also survived by 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at John A. Freyvogel's, 3406 Fifth Ave. Funeral Friday morning, March 14, at 8:30 o'clock. High mass of requiem at St. Agnes Church at 9 o'clock.
Charles B. Duffy died on July 8, 1962. Frances died on March 28, 1988.
