Margaret Ann "Peggy" (Madigan) Cooney, age 76, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 19, 2024. Beloved wife of 51 years to Robert "Bob" Cooney; sister of Martina (Fred) Allison, Patrick (Connie) Madigan, and Michael (Kathy) Madigan. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents Martin and Sara Madigan, her sister Mary Madigan Haggerty, and her brother Martin "Marty" (Deborah) Madigan. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom she loved and countless friends. Peggy will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Peggy was a graduate of St. Paul Cathedral High School and a graduate of St. Francis Nursing School where she worked as an Emergency Room Nurse for 30 years. She was very active within the Irish Community in Pittsburgh. She was the Chairperson of the Miss Smiling Irish Eyes Committee for the Pittsburgh St. Patrick Day Parade. Peggy also was The Past National President of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians. She formed the "Claddagh" Degree Team and was the director until the time of her death. Relatives and friends received Wednesday, October 23, 2024, from 6-8 PM and Thursday, October 24, 2024, from 1-3 & 6-8 PM at SCHEPNER-McDERMOTT FUNERAL HOME, INC., 165 Noble Avenue, Crafton. Funeral prayer Friday, October 25, 2024 at 9 AM at the funeral home followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in The Parish of St. Raphael the Archangel Parish, St Margaret of Scotland Church, 310 Mansfield Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15220.
