On September 18, 1948, at St. Mary's Church, St. Marys, Elk County, Pennsylvania, Virginia V. Lenze, Nurse, 23, born on August 19, 1925 in St. Marys, married Joseph L. Moretto, Physician, age 31, and born in Pine Run, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Raymond and Amelia (Fritz) Lenze, both born in St. Marys.

HUSBAND'S OBITUARY: Dr. Joseph Lawrence Moretto, 83, Neshannock Township resident Dr. Joseph Lawrence Moretto, 83, a retired ophthalmologist, died the night of Feb. 23, 2000, in Jameson Hospital. - Born Jan. 6, 1917, in Pine Run, Pa., he was a son of the late Lawrence J. and Secunda Bisacca Moretto. - He married the former Virginia Lenze in 1948. She survives. - A 1943 graduate of University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, he also was a graduate of the Pennsylvania University School of Ophthalmology. - He served internships at Ohio Valley, St. Joseph and St. Francis hospitals, all in Pittsburgh. He also completed a two-year residency at Eye and Ear Hospital, Pittsburgh. - Until retiring in 1997, he was on the staffs of Ellwood City, Jameson and St. Francis hospitals in Lawrence County and was a past president of the St. Francis medical staff. - Dr. Moretto had a private practice on North Jefferson Street. - A Navy veteran, he served from 1954 to '56 and was a commander. - Dr. Moretto was a member of the American and Pennsylvania medical associations. He was also a member and past president of the Lawrence County Medical Society. - A charter member of the Pennsylvania Academy of Ophthalmology, he belonged to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Pennsylvania Physicians Resource Council and the Catholic Resource Council. - Dr. Moretto also was a member of Kiwanis International's New Wilmington chapter, an honorary member of the New Castle Lions Club and a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Villa Maria Assembly. - He volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America, serving with the King Beaver District of the Moraine Trails Council and on the national level. - In addition to his wife, survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Cynthia) Medvitz of Mars, Pa., and Mrs. William (Dawnya) Marceau and Mrs. Robert (Delphine) Gabriel, both of New Castle; one son, Joseph Lawrence Moretto III of New Castle; and 12 grandchildren. - He was preceded in death by a daughter at birth, Mary Moretto. - Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Feb. 27 at the J. Bradley McGonigle Memorial Home, 111 W. Falls St. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Feb. 28 in the Queen of the Holy Rosary Church, Vienna, Ohio. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. - Memorial contributions may be made to the memorial funds of Jameson, St. Francis and Ellwood City hospitals.

OBITUARY: Neshannock Township resident Virginia Veronica (Lenze) Moretto, 95, entered into Eternal Life the night of Nov. 26, 2020, at St. John Specialty Care, Mars, Pennsylvania, after an extended illness. - Born on Aug. 19, 1925, in St. Marys, Pennsylvania, she was the fourth child of the late Raymond Anthony and Amelia Katherine (Fritz) Lenze. Virginia enrolled in the military cadet nurse program at St. Francis School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, from which she graduated in 1946 with a registered nurse degree. She married Dr. Joseph Lawrence Moretto in 1948. Mrs. Moretto was a member of the Medical Society Auxiliary, serving at the local, county, and state level, including serving as president of both the local and county chapters. She was also involved in the Festival of Trees, and was a parishioner of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Mary's Catholic Church for many years. Her most important and lasting legacy is that of wife and mother. She is survived by her four children: Cynthia Medvitz and her husband, Bob, of Mars, Joseph L. Moretto III, of New Castle, Dawnya Marceau and her husband, Bill, of New Castle, and Delphine Gabriel and her husband, Robert, of Palmetto, Florida; a sister, Cecilia Foster of St. Marys, Pennsylvania; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Joseph Moretto, M.D.; an infant daughter; four brothers; and two sisters. Memorial donations may be directed to the Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon, 2759 N Lipkey Road, North Jackson, Ohio 44451. - Calling hours will be 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2020 at the Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon. - Requiem Mass will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Basilica with Chorbishop Anthony Spinosa serving as celebrant. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, New Castle. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 111 W.
