OBITUARY: SYLVIA (CHOTTINER) LAMPENFELD - November 27, 1925 - April 29, 2017, grew up in Clairton, PA. She graduated from Clairton High School, where she played the clarinet in the marching band. After high school, she went to work in an office on Grant Street in downtown Pittsburgh. She met Morris "Moe" Lampenfeld at a dance in 1947. He was her first boyfriend and became her husband of 66 years. They lived on Beacon Street in Squirrel Hill before buying a house on Negley Avenue in East End. After raising three children, she returned to school at the age of 45 and earned her RN at St. Francis School of Nursing in 1972. She worked briefly at Mercy Hospital, and then practiced at University of Pittsburgh Student Health Center for more than 20 years. Sylvia enjoyed meeting new people and spending time with old friends. She had regular bridge, canasta, and Mah Jongg games, and enjoyed playing Michigan Rummy, Sequence, and Trivial Pursuit. She liked to read and watch movies, particularly musicals. At age 75, with no formal training, she began performing a tap dance routine as a member of the Squirrel Hill JCC choral group. She remained active in the choral group until Moe died in 2015 and she moved to Milwaukee to be near her daughter. She was preceded in death by husband Moe; son, Gary; brothers, Jacob "Jake" and Louis "Loozer"; and sister, Charlotte. She is survived by her daughter, Anita Nagurka (Mark) of Milwaukee, WI; son, Myles (Dianne) of Oakland, CA; grandsons, Jeff, Jordan, and Jake; great-granddaughter, Haley; sister-in-law, Esther Chottiner of Maryland; and many nieces and nephews.
