Class of 1916
"Kathryn J. Lally," born in Ireland on June 20, 1891, is probably the St. Francis graduate of the Class of 1916. At least, she had a significant association with St. Francis Hospital. The name of this particular nurse is spelled as Catherine and Kathryn.
At the time of the 1920 Federal Census, Kathryn Lally, 30, Graduate Nurse, Own Practice, born in Ireland, was residing in Pittsburgh, address unclear in the census. She indicated she was an alien citizen and had immigrated in 1901.
In 1930, Kathryn, 41, was working at a hospital and her address was South Evaline Street, Pittburgh. She indicated she had immigrated in 1906 and had applied to become a naturalized citizen. She was listed as Kathryn J. Lally at this same address in the 1929 Pittsburgh City Directory. The head of household was Harry Schroeder, 43, a manager of a paper business. Also in the home were his aunt, Anna Minke, 65, and Erma Donovan, 36, a stenographer.
The 1940 census finds Catherine Lally, 50, a naturalized citizen, head of household, residing at 5412 Penn Avenue. She was a nurse in private practice. Living with her were the same three people as in the 1930 census, at which time they lived on South Evaline Street.
In 1958, still on Penn Avenue, Kathryn J. Lally was listed as a nurse.
According the following Death Notices, Mary J. Lally was the sister of Kathryn J. Lally. They, however, did not live together, at least not in the early decades of their lives in Pittsburgh.
