From an article in The Pittsburgh Press, dated January 13, 1944: "Four district nurses have been commissioned ensigns in the Navy Nurse Corps and leave for duty shortly. They are: Gladys R. Komenda, Yolanda M. Poll, Mildred I. Clark, and Jessie Bucher."

She married Joseph Clary and lived in San Francisco.

OBITUARY: Gladys Rita Clary, Mar. 15, 1915 - Nov. 03, 2011. Passed away peacefully on the evening of Nov 3 at her home in San Francisco. She was born in Everson, PA to the late Andrew and Caroline Komenda. She was preceded in life [death] by her beloved husband Joseph M. Clary. She will be remembered for her long time devotion to St. Agnes RC Church her family and her many friends. Gladys is survived by her sister Anne Tartal of Pennsylvania, several nieces and nephews. Special thanks to her friend and neighbor Ed and care giver Jane Chua. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Agnes RC Church on Nov 9, 2011 at 3:00pm. Celebrants will be Father Raymond Allender S.J. and associates. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Agnes Church, 1025 Masonic Ave., San Francisco CA 94117.
