Joetta A. Kiley's parents were James W. and Elizabeth (Rowe) Kiley. Her father's sister was Mary Cecelia Kiley, Class of 1928. Three of her Kiley cousins, Loretta, Alice and Kathleen, were also graduates of the school of nursing at St. Francis. Additional family information is found on the personal pages of those relatives.

Liberace, the famous pianist, was a beloved benefactor to St. Francis Hospital. In November 1963, he became seriously ill while performing in Pittsburgh and was admitted to St. Francis. Joetta Kiley was one of the nurses assigned to care for him. In May 1984, Liberace returned to the hospital to see the staff who had taken care of him, including Joetta.
