Mary Ann (Karcher) Nordstrom, 88, of Van Buren Point, N.Y., passed away Saturday morning, Nov. 12, 2022.
She was born April 15, 1934, in Pittsburgh, Pa.. the daughter of John and Anna (Istenes) Karcher.
Mary Ann completed training at St. Francis School of Nursing in 1955 and went on to have a long, fulfilling career in healthcare for 60 plus years. She retired in 1985, as head nurse after 30 years with the VA Hospital in Pittsburgh.
She and her beloved husband Robert relocated to Van Buren Point to enjoy the sunsets and to spend time with their family. She came out of retirement to continue to help others and started WILKUM Personal Care Home in Erie, Pa.. for veterans. Mary Ann was a nurse at heart — empathetic, generous, and kind.
Mary Ann stepped away from WILKUM to be more involved with her eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and to travel. During this time, she traveled up and down the East Coast of the United States hitting nearly every state with her family and to visit old and new friends. She returned to nursing until the young age of 80 when she officially retired. She was devoted to her extensive family and cherished the time spent together.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert; a daughter, Karen (Dan) Maggio; and her brothers: Norbert, Donald, Ted, Jim and John Karcher.
Left behind to cherish her memories are her son, Kevin (Susan) Nordstrom, daughters: Lisa (Gary) Sheffield and Lynne (Randy) Barrett; and her cherished eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at the Morse Funeral Home, 51 Highland Ave., Brocton, N.Y., on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2022, from 5-7 p.m.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 145 E. Main St., Fredonia, N.Y., at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Sheridan, N.Y.
