Class of 1917
On May 23, 1917, the Pittsburgh Press published a list of the graduates of the St. Francis Class of 1917. This graduate was "Kathryn Hildegarde Jones, McKeesport." Kathryne, Katherine and Catherine are other spellings of this woman's given name.
Kathryn Jones was born Kathryn (or a variation of this spelling) Burke on August 23, 1890 in McKeesport. She was the daughter of Jeremiah Burke, born in West Virginia, and Katherine Stoup, born in Pennsylvania. Jeremiah was born in 1852 in Martinsburg, West Virginia, which was the state of Virginia until 1863.
The Burke family is found in the 1900 Federal Census of McKeesport, Allegheny County. The father, "Jermie," worked as a welder at the Tube Works. The children were Mary, 23, William, 20, Bernard, 18, John, 16, Mable, 12, Katie, 10, and Rosalla, 1.
In 1910, the family was still on Tenth Street, McKeesport. Children in the home were John C. Burke, 25, Mabel E. Burke, 22, and Catherine H. Burke, 20. Minnie L. Burke, 25, was the daughter-in-law.
In June 1910, Katherine Burke, of McKeesport, married Daniel S. Jones.
On September 7, 1911, a notice in the Pittsburgh Daily Post indicated that Daniel S. Jones was charged with "non-support." Kathryn gave birth to their daughter, Dorothy Jones, on November 23, 1911.
A few years later, Kathryn attended nursing school. At some point, she married Rudolf/Rudolph Monheim. In the 1930 census, Rudolph, 41, and Kathryne, 40, lived on Frankstown Avenue. Living with them was Kathryn's daughter, Dorothy Jones, age 18, a telephone operator.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, on June 19, 1937, announced the filing of a divorce between Rudolph Monheim and Kathryn Monheim.
On August 5, 1937, Dorothy Jones, age 25, daughter of Katherine H. Burke and Daniel S. Jones, died of complications of diabetes.
The divorce of Rudolph and Kathryn Monheim was published in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on December 2, 1937.
From a list of Pennsylvania Registered Nurses, 1940-1941, published by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nurse Examiners: "Kathryn Jones Monheim, 7023 Idlewilde St., Pittsburgh."
Katherine's mother died in 1942. The father, Jeremiah, had died in 1929.
Kathryn H. Burke Jones Monheim, Nurse, died at John J. Kane Hospital on October 26, 1959. Her marital status was "divorced." She is buried near her daughter and other family members at St. Joseph's Cemetery, North Versailles Township, Allegheny County.
