While a student nurse at St. Francis Hospital, Catherine Jenison participated in the U. S. World War II Cadet Nursing Corps. According to her membership card, she was born on August 5, 1925 and lived on Tustin Street in Pittsburgh.

In the 1940 Federal Census, "Katherine" Jenison, 14, was living with her family on Tustin Street. Her parents were Frank Jenison (formerly Janusonis) and his wife, Ursula, both born in Lithuania. They had the following children in 1940: John, 31; Frank, 28; Anthony, 26; Charles, 24; Eleanor, 20; Anna, 17, and Katherine, 14.

Catherine's father died in 1954.
