Born in Vestaburg, Washington County, Pennsylvania, on September 28, 1917, Helen Eunice Hussock was the daughter of Vasily (Charles) Hussock and Anna Selever.

From a list of Pennsylvania Registered Nurses, 1940-1941, published by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nurse Examiners: "Helen E. Hussock, Shady Side Hospital, Center Ave., Pittsburgh."

In Pittsburgh, on July 19, 1941, Helen Hussock, 23, married Harry M. Yaman, 31. At the time of the marriage, she was living at the Shadyside Hospital Nurses' Home. Harry, a Foreman, lived on Friendship Avenue, Pittsburgh.

News articles indicate that Helen was a Head Nurse at North Hills Passavant Hospital.
