ALEXANDRA HUSSAK VOELEKER

OBITUARY: Alexandra H. Voelcker, 90, of Lee Center, passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2020. She was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on January 18, 1931, a daughter of the late Joseph and Veronica (Thelma) Hussak. Alexandra was a graduate of St. Joseph’s School of Nursing [ERROR: St. Francis School of Nursing] and became a Registered Nurse. She was a veteran of the United States Air Force and she was a nurse at Marcy Psychiatric Center for sixteen years. She was an active volunteer and member of St. Joseph’s Church in Lee Center, serving as a Eucharist Minister and member of the church choir. On June 27, 1959, she was united in marriage to Robert H. Voelcker, a blessed union of 61 years. She loved to travel all over the world but her heart was in Hawaii where she orchestrated 25 years of treasured memories for her family and friends.

Surviving besides her loving husband, Robert, are two daughters and sons-in-law, Michelle and Philip Wilhelm and Catherine and Steven DeFazio; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert J. and Sarah Voelcker; a son-in-law, Martin Rath; nine grandchildren, Andrew, Eric and Aimee Wilhelm, Veronica, Morgan and Casey DeFazio; Madison Voelcker, and Kellin and Jessika Rath; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Karen Rath; four sisters, Blanche Nizankiewicz, Mary Snegocki, Stella Mielcarek and Helen Olack; and two brothers, Edward and Joseph Hussak.

Alexandra’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses, aides and staff of the Masonic Care Community who cared for and loved “Alex” for the last 10 years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 6, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church in Lee Center. Family and friends are invited to call from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, February 5, at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Alexandra’s memory may be made to St. Joseph’s Church, the Alzheimer’s Association or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a limited number of guests will be allowed to enter the funeral home at one time. Everyone must wear a face covering upon entering and proper social distancing protocols must be adhered to once inside.
