The marriage license application indicates that she was born in Somerset County, Pennsylvania on March 12, 1929. Mr. Savage was born in Pittsburgh on April 28, 1924 and resided at 45th Street. Her home address was in Van Dyke, Michigan, where her mother still resided. Her father, Homer Horner, was deceased, but he had been born in Somerset county, Pennsylvania. Her mother, Mary Cauffield, was born in Michigan.
John E. Savage died on January 16, 2009; last residence, Winston Salem, North Carolina.
HUSBAND'S OBITUARY: RALEIGH -- John Edward Savage, Jr., 84, formerly of Raleigh, died peacefully on January 16, 2009, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice and Palliative Care Center in WinstonSalem, NC. Born April 28, 1924 in Pittsburgh, PA to John Savage and Mary Galvin Savage. At 18 he joined the U.S. Army and served in WWII in the Pacific Theater. After serving, he attended Detroit University and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked for IBM until retirement after 25 years of service. He enjoyed time with the Neuse River HO Train Club, stamp collecting and watching WWII documentaries and films. - John is survived by his wife of 59 years, Annabelle Horner Savage; son, John, III (Mary), daughter, Susan O'Rourke (Francis); and five grandchildren; Trevor, Spencer, and Connor Savage, Kathleen and Erin O'Rourke; sister, Doris Cochrane. - A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Raleigh. - Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions sent to Hospice and Paiative Care Center, 101 Hospice Ln, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. - Arrangements by Mitchell Funeral Home at Raleigh Memorial Park.
