Bertha Hohing was born on January 7, 1907 in Lonaconing, Maryland. Her parents were Oscar Hohing and Margaret Kirkpatrick, both born in Lonaconing. This information comes from the license application from her second marriage. She was a nurse, age 31, and a resident of Pittsburgh, when she married Harry Bauer, a salesman from Pittsburgh, on January 12, 1939. The record shows she had been married previously and her husband died on November 14, 1938.
A death certificate for Lorenz Kerr indicates that he was the first husband of Bertha Hohing. He died of pneumonia at age 30.
At the time of her death on November 29, 1998, Bertha was Bertha Christina Kerr.
OBITUARY: Bertha Christina Kerr, 91, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born Jan. 7, 1907, in Loniconi [sic], Md. A resident for 18 years, she was a retired hospital nurse. - She is survived by one daughter, Jean Case of Las Vegas; two sons, Dick Kerr of Studio City, Calif., and Bill Kerr of Simi Valley, Calif.; one brother, Oscar Hohing of McKeesport, Pa.; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. - Visitation is scheduled noon-5 p.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the New Life Christian Center. Graveside services will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park. Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.
