The parents of Bertha Grabowsky are not exactly known. Born on August 13, 1898, she died on April 26, 1998. Her Social Security Application indicates that she was born in Poland and her parents were Thomas Klekner and Anna Grabowski, also found as Grabowsky. For whatever reason, Bertha used the surname Grabowsky.
From a list of Pennsylvania Registered Nurses, 1940-1941, published by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nurse Examiners: "B. Grabowsky Grabiak, 905 W. Smithfield St., Mt. Pleasant."
Bertha Grabiak, of Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania, was a Registered Nurse, according to the Pennsylvania State Board.
Bertha married John M. Grabiak, date unknown, and he died in 1951. His obituary states that his wife was Bertha E. and their address was "905 W. Smithfield St."
Bertha Grabowsky, 20, is found in the 1920 Federal Census as a student nurse at St. Francis Hospital. The record indicates that she was born in Pennsylvania, her father in Germany and her mother in Pennsylvania.
By 1930, Bertha was married to World War I Army veteran, John M. Grabiak, a coal miner, and they lived on West Smithfield Street, Mt. Pleasant. The census record states her birth place as Germany and her age as 30. She and John had three sons, John, 5, William, 4, and Richard, 1. They were all still at the same location in 1940.
As stated, John M. Grabiak, born in 1899, died October 12, 1951. Bertha died on April 26, 1998. They are buried at the Roman Catholic Polish Cemetery of the Transfiguration, Mount Pleasant, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.
