IRENE G. RETOS - Peacefully on July 21, 2010, at 88 years old. Born in Charleroi to Isidoris "James" and Eugenia "Virginia" Gialas. Devoted wife to the late Dr. George Retos. Wonderful mother of George (Kathy), Gregory, Gary, all of Washington, PA and Karen (Marion) Demma of Mount Lebanon, PA; loving "Yia yia" to Brandon, Nicholas, Kassandra, Mario, and Mercyne. She graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing's four year program as a Registered Nurse and served in the US Navy during WWII being honorably discharged as Lieutenant Jg. She spent many years residing with her husband in Carroll Twp. and Washington. She was a life time member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church where she served in many capacities; Daughters of Penelope and the Eastern Star. Irene was a longtime resident of Pompano Beach, FL where she spent many happy years. She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her three sisters, Mary G. Salidas, Caroline and Angeline Gialas. She is survived by her brother, George J. Gialas and his family of Ben Salem, PA. Friends will be received on Friday, July 23 from 2 until 9pm in the ROBERT A. BILLICK FUNERAL HOME, INC., Grand Blvd. and Marion Ave., Monessen, PA 724-684-3700, where Trisagion Service will be held at 7pm. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 10:30am in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church with Fr. Joseph DiStefano officiating, interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery. The family wishes to extend its heart felt gratitude to Southmont Nursing Home, HRC ManorCare in McMurray and to Fr. George Livanos and the A.S. Greek Orthodox Community in Canonsburg, PA for the wonderful friendships she cultivated over the years.
