Edith Margaret Beard Geyer, 91, formerly of Carlisle, passed away at 3:35 p.m. Sunday, July 25, 2004, in Eicher's Family Care Home, Springfield Township. She was born Nov. 2, 1912, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Wayne W. and Etta Mae Patterson Beard. She was married to the late Clarence J. Geyer, who passed away Dec. 1, 1960. Edith was born and raised in the Ambridge section of Pittsburgh. She was employed as a professional nurse with the U.S. Steel Corporation in Pittsburgh for many years. Following her retirement, Edith relocated to Carlisle where she was active in the Presbyterian church. She also enjoyed cross-stitching and knitting. Edith will be sadly missed by her loving family: two nephews, L. John Powell Jr., and wife, Terry, and David W. Powell and wife, Melinda, all of Connellsville and several great-nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of the Wayne W. and Etta Mae Patterson Beard family. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, the Rev. Father Richard Geyer; a daughter, Carol Jean Areeda; two brothers, Samuel Norman and George Wayne Beard, and a twin sister, Ethel Julia Beard Powell. Family and friends will be received today from 6 to 8 p.m., at the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 Spring St., Scottdale (724-887-5300/ e-mail: fergfh@a1usa.net). Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dr. James W. Hepler officiating. Chapel committal services and interment will follow in Christ Our Redeemer Cemetery, Pittsburgh.
