JEAN LEATHA GEORGE CRUMLEY

Class of 1947-A


While a student nurse, Jean participated in the U. S., World War II Cadet Nursing Corps. According to her membership cards, she was born on February 18, 1925 and resided at Portage, Cambria County, Pennsylvania. Her father was Ralph George, a mechanic.

At the time of the 1930 Federal Census of Portage, Cambria County, Ralph T. George and his wife, Maude, born born in Pennsylvania, had the following children: Raphael, Douglas, Dorothy, Patricia, Jean, John and Margaret.

The family seems to have been missed in 1940, but on her Cadet Nursing Corps card, her address was Orchard Street, Portage. Likewise, her father's address on his WWII Draft Registration card, dated 1942, is Orchard Street. Ralph T. and Maude are buried at Prospect Cemetery in Portage.

Jean Leatha George of Orchard Street, Portage, Pennsylvania, married Lloyd Morris Crumley, a student, on May 18, 1948 in Pittsburgh. According to the marriage record, Jean, 23, unemployed, was born February 18, 1925 at Portage and her parents were Ralph George, a mechanic, and Maude Gregory, a housewife. Lloyd was born on November 10, 1924 in Pennsylvania and his parents lived in Alabama.

Records indicate that Lloyd M. Crumley served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He became a scientist, author and psychologist. He died April 23, 2004 in Lawton, Oklahoma.

Jean died November 19, 2012 at Lawton, Comanche County, Oklahoma.
