Margaret Gentile, born July 20, 1932, enlisted in the U. S. Air Force Nurse Corps in January 1964. She was a Major, according to the USAF Active list for 1969. She retired as a Lt. Colonel.

On Saturday, August 18, 2012, Lieutenant Colonel Margaret A. Gentile. Beloved daughter of the late Doninic and Vincentia (Ranallo) Gentile. The youngest of six children, Margaret is survived by her brother, Lawrence J. Gentile of Shadyside. She was preceded in death by siblings, Sister Mary Concetta, S.A.C., Frank, Dominic and Brother Albert Gentile, T.O.R.; also survived by nephews, Frank (Jeanne) Gentile of Glenshaw, Dominic (Jill) Gentile of Irwin, Vincent Gentile; and nieces, Vinessa (Mike) Turpin of Bloomfield, Kathy Anne (Chris) Reiner of Harmar Twp.; she is also survived by seven great-nieces and nephews. Margaret graduated from St. Frances School of Nursing in 1953 and Duquesne University with a B.S. in nursing prior to enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1964. In addition to serving stateside, Margaret also served tours in Japan and Spain. She was a flight nurse in the Vietnam War eventually earning the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force before retiring in 1984. Friends will be received JOHN A. FREYVOGEL SONS INC., 4900 Centre Ave. at Devonshire St., on Thursday 2-8 p.m. Funeral Friday, Mass of Christian Burial St. Paul Cathedral, 10:30 a.m.

SR. MARY CONCETTA S.A.C. (MARY FRANCES) GENTILE - A member of the Pallottine Missionary Sisters, died February 20, 2009, at the age of 87, at St. Mary's Infirmary in Huntington, WV. Sr. Gentile was born June 28, 1921, in Pittsburgh, PA. Sr. was one of six children of the late Dominic and Vincentia (Ranallo) Gentile. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers Frank, Dominic (who died in WWII) and Brother Albert, T.O.R.; she is survived by her brother Lawrence and sister, Retired Colonel Margaret Gentile both of Pittsburgh; sister Concetta entered the Pallottine Missionary Sisters on July 24, 1938 in Huntington, WV. She made her final vows as a Pallottine Missionary Sister on August 15, 1947, in Huntington. She earned a B.S. Degree from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. and a Masters Degree in Education from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. She attended Marshall University in Huntington, WV, received certification in sanitation practice for food service from Penn State University, and earned a certificate in theology from Providence College, Rhode Island. She taught in Pittsburgh, PA, Huntington, WV, Richwood, WV and Laurel, MD for a total of 35 years. She also taught summer school for religion in Buckhannon for 2 summers, Gary, WV for 7 summers and Powhatan, WV for 12 summers. After she retired from teaching, she served in the dietary dept. at St. Mary's Medical Center.
