Class of 1944
Rose Margaret Gamble was born on October 26, 1916 in Derry, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. Her parents were Andy Gamble, (1879-1959), and Annie Cirperdak, both born in Austria/Poland.
At the time of the 1920 Federal Census of Derry, Westmoreland County, Andy and Annie Gamble had the following children: Mary, 15, Helen, 13, Anna, 11, Sophia, 10, Catherine, 3, Rose, 3, and Andy, 1.
In 1930 the Gamble children at home were Sophia, 20, Rose, 15, Andy, 13, Julia, 10, John, 8, Metro, 5, and Mildred, 2.
While a student nurse, Rose participated in the U. S., World War II Cadet Nursing Corps.
Following graduation, she served in the U. S. Army Nurse Corps from January 15, 1945 until April 10, 1946. When she applied for Veteran Compensation in 1950, she was living in Cleveland, Ohio.
On September 18, 1946, Rose Margaret Gamble married Wade Vernon Kern in Thurston County, Washington. He had been married twice before and divorced. He and Rose were not married too long because he married again in June 1950. On the last marriage license application, he claimed two, not three, previous marriages, with the last divorce in May 1950.
Rose Margaret Gamble Kern died on August 2, 1986 in Los Angeles, California.
