OBITUARY: Greenville - Mary Elizabeth Gallagher Seale, 94, of Greenville, wife of the late William John Seale, died Monday, September 11, 2017.
Born in York, PA, she was the daughter of the late John Henry and Mary Georgiana Gallagher. Mary graduated with a BS in Nursing from St. Francis School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, PA, as an Army nurse. She was an early Flight Attendant with American Airlines Overseas and flew this domestic and international route: Fort Worth; NY; Reykjavik, Iceland; London; Paris and Berlin. She was the only American Woman to fly the Berlin Airlift as an RN with the 464th Bomb Group. The Berlin Airlift was an effort, after WWII, to supply food and medicine to Russian controlled East Berlin. The Russians were actively trying to shoot down these supply planes.
Mary was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church and participated in the Heart of Jesus Prayer Group, Priests for Life and EWTN. She was a strong believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, a godly woman of prayer and wise counsel and loved all her family, church family, and others wholeheartedly. She will be greatly missed by all.
Survivors include Alan Seale of Greenville; Brenda Zuperku and husband Edward of Oconomowoc, WI; Robert Seale and wife Eileen of Brentwood, TN; John Seale of Winter Springs, FL.; nine grandchildren, David, Christina, Daniel, James, Ashley, John, Michael, Jenna and Justin; and eight great grandchildren, Amy, Zander, Henry, Christian, Grace, Elliana, Maya and Elliana. She was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Charles and John H. Gallagher.
The Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 6:30 PM on Thursday, September 28, 2017, at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Southeast Chapel, with visitation to follow until 8:30 PM.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 29, 2017, at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Graceland East Memorial Park.
