According to her Social Security record, Anna M. Filip was born on January 1, 1909. Her parents were Matthew Filipcic and Frances Pupich, both born in Yugoslavia/Austria. The family lived in Donora, Washington County, Pennsylvania, and Matthew worked at the steel works.
At the time of the 1920 Federal Census of Donora, Matthew and Frances had the following children: Mary Filipcic, 12, Anna Filipcic, 11, Mike Filipcic, 9, Katie Filipcic, 8, Bertha [Barbara] Filipcic, 6, and Steve Filipcic, almost 4.
Anna Filip, 21, was a student nurse at St. Francis Hospital at the time of the 1930 Federal Census.
The marriage license of John Skudneski, Natrona, Pa., and Anna Filip, Donora, Pa., was published in the The Pittsburgh Press on June 7, 1934. John's sister, Edith Skudneski, graduated in the Class of 1931 with Anna. Another brother, Edmund Skudneski, married Margaret C. Buchta, also in the Class of 1931.
Anna's mother died on September 1, 1955. Her father died in 1956.
A 1960 news article about Anna's brother, Father Michael J. Filipcic, mentions that Anna was a nurse at St. Francis Hospital.
Rev. Michael J. Filipcic, died September 3, 1974. Another brother, John Filipcic, died September 8, 1997.
John Skudneski, Anna's husband, born in 1905, died of a stroke on August 28, 1963. She died February 8, 1984. They are buried at Our Lady of Hope Cemetery, Tarentum, Allegheny County.
