In 1944, Martin Lappe was fined and suspended for 90 days after shooting a neighbor's cat. The charges had been dropped because the complainant didn't appear for the court hearing. However, after the Court learned that Lappe had told the complainant that the hearing had been canceled, he then imposed the penalty.
