PAULINE M. ERNY CRAIN

Class of 1915

A news article about the St. Francis graduating Class of 1915 states that this graduate was "Pauline M. Erny, Latrobe, Pa."

Pauline Erny, age 7, is found in the 1900 Federal Census of Unity, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. She was born in Pennsylvania on February 28, 1893, the daughter of Frank Patrick Erny, a farmer, and his wife, Dorothy (Young). Other children in 1900 were Kate, Frank, Xavier, Estelle and Joseph.

By 1910, the parents had two more children, Philip and Paul. Pauline, 17, is listed as a "Teacher, Public Schools."

The 1916 Pittsburgh City Directory of Nurses names Pauline M. Erny, 420 45th St.

Pauline married Martin Patrick Crain, Jr., born in Pittsburgh. When he registered for the World War I Draft in June 1917, he was married and lived on James Street, Pittsburgh. They had a son, Neal J. Crain, in 1919, and a daughter, Ruth in 1923.

At the time of the 1930 census, Martin and Pauline lived on James Street, Pittsburgh, with their two children.

Martin died of pernicious anemia in 1937, at which time they lived in Latrobe.

Erny

Pauline's brother, Joseph Erny, was a widower with a young daughter, Nancy. In the 1940 census, Pauline and her two children were living with Joseph and Nancy.

Pauline Erny Crain died December 29, 1968 in Greensburg. They are buried at Saint Vincent Cemetery, Westmoreland County.
