M. Nellie Eichenlaub was born in May 1884 in Altoona, Blair County, Pennsylvania. Her parents were John and Mary J., both born in Pennsylvania. In the 1900 Federal Census, Nellie was 16, and living with her family, which included six siblings: Lawrence, Leo, Hazel, Mary, John and Agatha. Their home was on Eleventh Avenue in Altoona.
In 1910, at age 25, Nellie was living at home with parents and several siblings at the same Altoona address.
On June 23, 1915, in Altoona, M. Nellie Eichenlaub, a nurse, age 30, born in and a resident of Altoona, married J. A. Saalwachter, a Lithographer, 41, born in Rochester, New York, and a resident of Denver, Colorado. He had been previously married and his wife was deceased.
In the Pennsylvania Department of Health Report, 1918, M. Nellie Eichenlaub is listed as a nurse at the Pennsylvania State Sanitorium for Tuberculosis No. 2, at Cresson. (It was noted that she had resigned.)
Nellie died August 14, 1951 in Los Angeles, California.
