Vera Margaret Dumm was born on April 10, 1900 in Spangler, Cambria County, Pennsylvania. Her parents were Edward F. Dumm, a Building Contractor, and Margaret Hoppel, who were married on January 23, 1900 in Carrolltown, Cambria County.
At the time of the 1910 Federal Census, Edward and Margaret had the following children: Vera Dumm, 10, Iva Dumm, 8, Kathleen Dumm, 5, Agnes Dumm, 2, and John, newborn.
Vera should be listed in the 1920 census of St. Francis Hospital but for some reason, she isn't. Nor is she found in the 1930 census, including with her family.
She was found in 1940 with her family, at which time she was doing clerical work at her father's lumber mill.
BIOGRAPHY OF DUMM FAMILY - History of Cambria County, Volume Two, 1926: "E. F. Dumm, who is successfully engaged in the lumber business at Spangler, is a member of a prominent pioneer family of Cambria County. He was born in Blacklick Township, Feb. 25, 1881 and is the son of John and Margaret (Mulvehill) Dumm. - John Dumm, deceased, was a native of Pine Township, Indiana County, Pa. When a young man he learned the carpenter trade and spent several years in Johnstown. He the removed to Spangler and erected the first flour and feed mill at that place. He also owned the first lumber yard in Spangler and became one of the leading lumbermen of Cambria County. He was a Democrat, and served as a member of the City Council and as school director. He was a member of the Catholic Church. Mr. and Mrs. Dumm are buried at Nicktown. They were the parents of 11 children, as follows: James P., a sketch of whom appears elsewhere in this history; Thomas, a farmer, lives at Nicktown; Charles, deceased; E. F., the subject of this sketch; Ellen, married Val Weiland, a farmer, lives at Nicktown; Daniel, deceased; William, lives at Spangler; Colletta, deceased; Walter, lives in Oregon; John and Anthony, both deceased. - E. F. Dumm spent his boyhood in Barr Township and attended the district school. At an early age he engaged in the lumber business with his father and after the latter's death assumed full management of the business. The Dumm Lumber Company is a leading dealer in building materials and also general building contractor. Mr. Dumm is a director of the First National Bank of Spangler, the Chamber of Commerce, and is identified with the Retail Lumber Dealers' Association. - In 1901 Mr. Dumm was married to Miss Margaret Hoppel, the daughter of Henry and Theresa (Ager) Hoppel, natives of Barr Township. Mr. Hoppel is deceased and his widow resides a Carroltown. Six children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Dumm: Vera, a nurse, lives in Pittsburgh; Iva, at home; Cathleen, married Edward Lipman, lives in Detroit, Mich.; Agnes, a student at Mt. Aloysius Academy; John, at home; and Joseph, deceased. - Mr. Dumm is a Democrat and has served as a member of the boro council and as its president for four years. He is a member of the Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Chetromon Country Club. He is capable and progressive business man and is known as a substantial member of the community."
Vera M. Dumm, unmarried, died of cancer on June 3, 1956. She is buried at Saint Benedicts Catholic Cemetery, Carrolltown, Cambria County.
