Marie, Dau, 3, b Pa.At the time of the 1920 Census, Pauline Dotterway was a student nurse at St. Francis Hospital. Her sister, Blanche Dotterway, was an intern at Passavant Hospital, Pittsburgh. She graduated from the Loyola University School of Medicine in Chicago and was licensed in 1930. An online list of early physicians states that Blanche Elizabeth Dotterway resided at 36 Avenue (the family home in 1910), and had her office at 805 Ligonier Street, Latrobe. A newspaper article (below) indicates that Blanche married, but at the time of her death in March 1991, her surname was Dotterway.
Pauline Dotterway married World War I veteran Fred R. Heese. Fred, the son of Fred Heese, had enlisted April 4, 1918. He was sent to Camp Lee and was attached to Company G, 319th Regiment, 80th Division. He sailed May 27, 1918 and was in the battle of Meuse-Argonne. He returned Dec. 1, 1918 and was honorably discharged Sept. 4, 1919. He married Pauline at some point following her graduation.
Fred and Pauline had one child, a daughter, Joan, born in Buffington, Pa. (Fayette County) on November 13, 1927, according to Joan's obituary.
In 1930, Fred R. and Pauline Heese were residents of West Main Street, Menallen Twp., New Salem Town, Fayette County, Pa. Their daughter, Joan, as well as Fred's brother, John, 25, were also in the home. New Salem, west of Uniontown, is the same as Buffington and was a coal mining town; it is referred to today as New Salem-Buffington.
One article, shown below, not only misspells Pauline's surname and her daughter's name, but it also states that Pauline's father was "George" Dotterway. The article about Blanche's marriage sets that record straight.
Pauline's husband died in 1967, and in her later years, Pauline moved to Florida to live with her daughter. Pauline, born May 2, 1902, died December 4, 1988 in Florida. No obituary found.
