McKeesport Pair Marks 50th Year Mr. and Mrs. Richard J. Simak of 216 Halsey Drive, McKeesport, are celebrating their golden wedding anniversary today. The former Vincentina Como and Mr. Simak were married Nov. 27, 1952, in St. Cecelia Church, Glassport, by the Rev. Soisson.
Mr. Simak retired in 1985 as a foreman and general foreman from the National plant, U.S. Steel Corp., and his wife is a former registered nurse from St. Francis and McKeesport hospitals and substitute office nurse for McKeesport Area School District.
They are the parents of Deborah Simak of Pittsburgh and James Simak of Jacksonville, Fla. The couple has four grandchildren. In honor of the occasion, a holiday party for family and friends is being planned at the Georgetown Centre, Pleasant Hills. The couple also is planning a Caribbean cruise.
OBITUARY: Vincentina "Vincenza" Simak, age 88, of McKeesport, died March 10, 2019, at UPMC Presbyterian. Born August 8, 1930, in Glassport, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Rosalia (Sinatra) Como, and the wife of Richard J. Simak, Sr. Vincentina retired from St. Francis Hospital, where she was a Registered Nurse and also a part-time nurse for the McKeesport Area School District. She was a member of Corpus Christi Church and the former Sacred Heart Church, where she was a past president of the Christian Mother's and a member of the Catholic Woman's Club. She was also past president of the following: Glassport Young Woman's Club, McKeesport PTA, and Serra Catholic Women. Vincentina was an avid Bridge player and member of the American Contract Bridge League, where she received the Gold Life Masters Achievement Award in 2015. In addition to Bridge, her greatest joy was entertaining for her family and friends. In addition to her husband, she is also survived by her children, Deborah Simak of Pittsburgh and James (Theresa) Simak of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Zachary Holtzman, Christina Stifler, Elizabeth Eger and Andrew Simak; great-grandchildren, Lilly, Lia and Zachary, Jr.; nieces and nephews, Patty, Paula, Judy, Tom, Nancy, David, Miriam, Diane and Joey. She was preceded in death by her son, Richard, Jr.; siblings, Joseph Como, Jr., Nino Como and Madalen Minydzak. Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory, 2703 O'Neil Blvd., McKeesport, PA 15132, on Saturday, March 16, 2019, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, 1 p.m., at Corpus Christi Church.
