OBITUARY: Ruth Emma (Cochran) Ishman, 97, of Punxsutawney, Grube Settlement, died Friday, March 6, 2009, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital. She was born April 1, 1911, in Punxsutawney, at Adrian Hospital, a daughter of the late Marion C. and Ellen May (Brian) Cochran. On July 22, 1938, she married Walter Daniel Ishman, of Knoxdale, who preceded her in death in 1986. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Punxsutawney. She was a 1928 graduate of Punxsutawney Area High School and a member of the last class of student nurses at Adrian Hospital. She was later transferred to St. Francis School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, where she graduated in 1934. She was employed for several years as a private duty nurse. She was a member of the Pennsylvania State Nurse's Association District No. 8, Punxsutawney Elks Auxiliary and the original Homemakers Club in Punxsutawney. She resided most of her life at her family's century farm. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her family and always had a smile on her face. She is survived by four sons, Samuel Ishman and his wife, Carole, David Ishman, Jacob Ishman and his wife, Karen, and Philip Ishman, all of Punxsutawney; two daughters, Edna May Wray and her husband, David, of Worthington, and Catherine C. Ondo, of Indiana; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Michael Ishman, who was killed in Vietnam in 1967; and two grandchildren, Jeffery S. Ishman and Timothy D. Wray. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the MCCABE FUNERAL HOME in Punxsutawney. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev.
