ELEANOR J. CARTER CLARK

Class of 1918

Eleanor J. Carter was born on February 26, 1897 in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Her parents were Charles Talbot Carter and Mary Julian Stoney.

The family lived in Pittsburgh, on Annabell Street, Mt. Washington, at the time of the 1910 Federal Census. Mrs. Carter had given birth to 7 children, 4 of whom were still living. The children were George S., 15, Eleanor J., 13, Mary V., 7 and Esther, 6.

The father, Charles T. Carter, a paint contractor, born in Tennessee, died in 1914.

Carter (nee Stoney), in his 53rd year. - Funeral from his residence, 322 Annabell St., Mt. Washington, on Saturday, Jan. 31, 1914, at 8:30 a.m. Requiem high mass at St. Mary's of the Mount church at 9 o'clock. Friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend. Interment private. Please omit flowers.

The 1930 census finds Eleanor married to Thomas M. Clark, 42, a City Clerk. The record indicates he had married at age 34. Eleanor J., 33, was 25 when she married, so they had been married for about 8 years. They had two children, Patricia M., 6, and Thomas M., Jr., almost 4.

In 1940, Thomas Clark, 52, was a Fire Inspector for the Department of Safety. Eleanor, 43, was the mother of three children, Patricia, 17, Thomas J., 14, and Eleanor, 6.

Eleanor's mother, Mary J. Stoney Carter, died in 1954.

Carter, nee Stoney, mother of Mrs. Eleanor Clark, Mrs. Mary Tragesser, Mrs. Esther Longood and George S. Carter. Friends received at the Beinhauer Mortuary, 2630 West Liberty Ave., until Saturday morning at 11 o'clock. Solemn requiem high mass at St. Bernard's Church at 12 o'clcok. Interment St. George's Cemetery.

Eleanor's daughter, Patricia Mary Clark, married William R. Dougherty of Donora, Pa. in 1947.

Eleanor J. Carter Clark died on May 30, 1987 in Camp Hill, Pa., where her daughter, Patricia, lived.

Daughter, Patricia Clark Dougherty, died in 1991. Daughter, Eleanor Bowers, died in 2015. Son, Thomas M. Clark, Jr, died in 1994.
