Laura Sue Buckwalter was born on January 6, 1929 at Portage, Cambria County, Pennsylvania. Her parents were Leslie Paul Buckwalter and Kathryn Canavan. At the time of the 1940 Federal Census, they indicated they had lived in Kittaning, Armstrong County, in 1935. There were three children in the home in 1940: Paul, 15, Laura, 11, and Gary, 5.

Laura Sue married Thomas Frank Abbott in Pittsburgh in December 1949.

She had a Registered Nurse licence from 1949-1999.

Laura died on October 16, 1999.
