The birth record of Alice Marie Brenneman is online. She was born October 15, 1906 in Freeport, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania. Her parents were Alphonso M. Brenneman (1877-1928) and Harriet Smith (1879-1921). In the 1920 census, Mr. Brenneman was a signal man at the railroad. Alice Marie, 14, had an older brother Edward L., 16.
Following the mother's death in Freeport in 1921, the father remarried and they lived in New Kensington, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. Alphonso M. Brenneman, a store keeper, died at the end of 1928, at which time Alice Marie would have been in nursing school at St. Francis.
Alice, 23, is found in the 1930 Federal Census of nursing students at St. Francis Hospital.
On January 21, 1931, Alice Brenneman, 24, of Pittsburgh, born in Freeport, Pa., married Leo J. Phillips, 31, born in Pittsburgh. The marriage took place in Wellsburg, Brooke County, West Virginia.
In the 1940 census of Pittsburgh, Leo and Alice had two children, Alice Jane, 8, and Lee, 4. Leo was a cashier at an insurance company.
There is an Alice Phillips, RN, whose nursing license expired in 1974 and was not renewed.
Leo Julius Phillips died September 11, 1976.
Alice M. Brenneman Phillips died on March 7, 1988.
