Mary Elizabeth Boyle was born in Pennsylvania on June 20, 1916. Her mother was Jean C. Boyle, born in 1889; died April 22, 1977; buried at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, McMurray, Washington County, Pennsylvania. Her death notice states that she was the "beloved mother of Mrs. Charles (Mary Elizabeth) Murphy." The name of Mary Elizabeth's father, and the maiden name of the mother have not been located.
In 1940, Mary Elizabeth Boyle, 23, Nurse, was employed at Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh.
Mary Elizabeth Boyle married Dr. Charles Currie Murphy, born on December 15, 1914, the son of West Penn Hospital Urologist, Arthur Irwin Murphy, and Gertrude M. Currie, a 1909 graduate of the school of nursing at Allegheny General Hospital. Gertrude died in 1930.
"Mrs. Charles C. Murphy" is found in several news articles in the 1950s about the St. Francis Hospital Women's Auxiliary, which a number of doctors' wives seemed to be members of.
The death of Mary Elizabeth occurred in June 1983 in Litchfield Park, Maricopa County, Arizona.
Dr. Charles C. Murphy was a Captain in the US Army during World War II. He died on April 15, 1988 at Litchfield Park, Arizona.
They are buried at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Avondale, Arizona, and both names are on the gravestone.
