Class of 1915
A news article about the St. Francis graduating Class of 1915 states that this graduate was "Rose A. Bolliger, Grafton, West Virginia." All of the records confirm that the surname was spelled Bolliger, not Bollinger.
In 1913, a New York Passenger List, Liverpool to New York, lists Fred Bolliger and his daughter, Rose, 22, born in Grafton, West Virginia on March 15, 1890. Their residence was Grafton.
Rose's mother, Roanna Jane Hickman Bolliger, died of cancer in 1927. Fred John Bolliger died in 1930, and he had named his daughter, "Rose Klipel" in his will that was filed in Grafton, Taylor County.
In Richmond, Virginia, on June 27, 1918, Rose Ann Bolliger, born in 1891 in Grafton, West Virginia, married J. [John] Laurence Klippel, born in 1892 in Pittsburgh. His parents were Philip G. Klippel and Mattie N. [Ingles] Klippel. Rose's parents were listed as Fred J. Bolliger and Roanna Bolliger.
The couple married in Richmond, and, very soon after, John Laurence Klippel, stationed at Camp Lee, Virginia, left for overseas duty in World War I. In his application for compensation, he stated that he enlisted in Pittsburgh on April 27, 1918, and served overseas from July 26, 1918 - June 2, 1919.
In 1920, J. Laurence and Rose Klippel lived on Sheridan Avenue, Pittsburgh.
In 1934 when J. Laurence filed the aforementioned compensation claim, he stated his residence was Beverly Road, Mt. Lebanon, Pittsburgh, Allegheny County.
When John Laurence Klippel filled out the World War II Draft Registration Card, they were still living on Beverly Road, Mt. Lebanon, Allegheny County. He was employed at the Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Railway Company.
J. Laurence Klippel, born in December 4, 1892, died on November 29, 1974 in Wilmington, Delaware. The joint gravestone gives Rose Bolliger Klippel's birth year as 1891. She died August 24, 1970. They are buried at Homewood Cemetery, Pittsburgh.
