OBITUARY
Irene Bodner Iannuzzi of Ellicott City died of complications from a stroke April 11 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. She was 77.
Born Sept. 12, 1928, in Latrobe, Pa., she was a 1947 graduate of Latrobe High School and earned her nursing degree from St. Francis School of Nursing in Pittsburgh in 1950, specializing in psychiatric nursing.
She took a position with the Western Psychiatric Institute in Pittsburgh, where she worked alongside world-renowned pediatrician Dr. Benjamin Spock. She later went to work for the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda.
She and her husband, John, moved to Ellicott City in 1958 and started a small farm that she managed for 47 years, which included an orchard, livestock and fowl, and a half-acre herb and vegetable garden. There were also approximately 30 honey bee colonies. The couple sold fruits, vegetables, eggs, plants, honey and other bee products from their farm, called Howard Farms.
She actively supported her children's activities, including their participation in the Howard County 4-H program.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by six children, Christopher Iannuzzi, Marian Iannuzzi, Annamarie Iannuzzi, Joseph "Jo" Iannuzzi, Rene Iannuzzi and Teegrey Karen Iannuzzi; seven grandchildren, Rachel and John Bade, Benjamin, Leah and Luke Iannuzzi, and Stephanie and Timothy James Welsh; a brother, Joseph E. Bodner; and a sister, Frances Malloy.
She was preceded in death by seven siblings, Margaret Stepanic, John E. Bodner, Stephen Bodner, Ann L. Cargo, Edward J. Bodner, Virginia Bodner and Donald Bodner.
Funeral services were held April 18 at the Church of the Resurrection in Ellicott City. Interment was in New Cathedral Cemetery in Baltimore.
