ROSALIA BERNT HARDISON

Rosalia "Rose" K. Bernt was born in Johnstown, Cambria County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Joseph Bernt and Mary Bishof, both born in Germany.

At the time of the 1900 Federal Census, the Bernt family was found in Johnstown, Cambria County, Pennsylvania. The mother, Mary [Bishof] Bernt, was a widow, age 41, and she had six children: Mary A., b Apr 1881; Rosa K., b Aug 1882; Joseph F., b Oct 1883; Frank J., b Dec 1885; Louisa, b Mar 1888 and Robert, b 1890.

Rosalia is named in a 1922 history of the Pittsburgh Red Cross, a nurse who was "in active service with the American Expeditionary Forces and in the United States." She served in the U. S. Army Nurse Corps as a 2nd Lieutenant from May 1, 1918 to June 28, 1920. At the time of the 1920 Federal Census, she was stationed at the Base Hospital at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas.

She is listed as a nurse in the 1920 City Directory of Johnstown, Cambria County.

Elmer W. and Rose Hardison are listed in the Johnstown, Pennsylvania City Directory in 1925.

In 1940, "Rose" Hardison and husband, Elmer W., were living in Los Angeles. Elmer was a Landscape Gardner at a Motion Picture Studio.

The WWII Draft Registration indicates that Elmer Wayne Hardison was born in Texas on March 27, 1893. He was employed with Twentieth Century Fox, and they resided at West Los Angeles. His wife was Rose K. Hardison.

Rosalia filed an application (shown below) for compensation, based on her military service.

According to the records of the Los Angeles National Cemetery, Rosalia Bernt Hardison was born August 13, 1882 and she died July 9, 1960. Elmer died May 19, 1973 in Los Angeles.
