Mrs. Betty Lou [Beglin] Collins of Lewiston, NY, died on Tuesday January 6, 2009 in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence following a long illness.
She was born in Midland, PA, on September 1, 1922, the daughter of Winston J. Beglin, Sr. and Elizabeth [Workman] Beglin. After her mother’s death in 1928, Betty was cared for and raised with much love and devotion by her step mother Marjorie E. Beglin. She graduated from the Lincoln High School, in Midland, PA. In 1943 she graduated from the Saint Francis Hospital School of Nursing of Pittsburgh, PA. Following her graduation she went to work as an industrial nurse at the Treadwell Construction Company Midland, PA.
In 1951, she married John F. Collins in Midland, PA, after which they moved to Niagara Falls, NY. From then on she devoted her life to her family and her husband’s career frequently traveling with her husband in the United States, Canada and Europe.
She enjoyed spending part of the winter on the island of Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands. She was a member of the Goat Island Investment Club, Lewiston, NY. The Tattler Club, Niagara Falls, NY and the Fort Pitt Chapter, of the Daughters of American Revolution, Pittsburgh, PA. She enjoyed the Niagara Falls Country Club, Lewiston, NY, with her husband. She had served as a Deacon of the First Presbyterian Church, Lewiston, NY.
Surviving is her husband of 57 years, John F. Collins; a son, John W. [Linda] Collins of Bonita Springs, FL; a daughter, Elizabeth M. [David] Smith of Oakwood, CA; a son, Winston F. [Sue] Collins of Youngstown, NY; two sisters, Mrs. Mollie [John] Halls, of Nolensville, TN, Mrs. Nancy [Rev. James] Equels, of Beaver, PA; seven loving grandchildren, Jack, Cara and Lisa Collins, Kacie and Alex Smith, Elizabeth and Britnany Jackson-Machmer, and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no prior visitation. A Memorial service will be announced at a later time. Burial will be in the Sylvania Hill Cemetery, Daugherty Township, Beaver County, PA, at the convenience of the family.
