Pearl Bertha Barringer was born February 12, 1891 to William Barringer, an electrician, and his wife, Katherine "Kate" (Gartner), both born in Ohio, and residents of Warren, Trumbull County, Ohio at the time of the 1900 Federal Census. At that time, the children were Mary (a milliner), 15, Caroline, 13, Pearl B., 9, and Anna L., 5.
In 1910, the father was an electrician for the water company. The children were Marie R., 25 (a milliner), Caroline, 22, Pearl Bertha, 19 (a milliner), and Anna Louise, 15.
On June 3, 1914, Marie R. Barringer, a milliner, age 28, a resident of Warren, Ohio, daughter of William David Barringer and Catherine Gartner, married Thomas Hough Robey, an engineer, residing in Pittsburgh. - And they lived in Pittsburgh for many years after their marriage.
The 1920 census finds Pearl Barringer, 26, born in Ohio, parents born in Ohio, a Pupil Nurse at St. Francis Hospital. "Pearl B. Barringer" graduated in 1921.
Pearl Bertha Barringer was evidently called "Betty," and her name eventually became "Betty Pearl" in some records.
Betty Pearl Barringer, a graduate of the school of nursing at St. Francis Hospital, married Dr. Albert Koenig, born in Huntsville, Missouri, on October 2, 1922 in Pittsburgh. The bride's attendant, Miss Jean Piccardo, was a graduate of the St. Francis nursing school Class of 1920. Her husband's name was really Charles Albert Koenig, but he must have been called "Albert."
Dr. and Mrs. Koenig had a daughter, Gretchen Koenig, born July 17, 1927 in Atlanta, Georgia. She died February 10, 1929 in Pittsburgh. Her parents are stated as Charles A. Koenig, born in Missouri, and Pearl Barringer, born in Warren, Ohio. Dr. Koenig was the Informant. The child was removed to Warren, Ohio for burial.
At the time of the 1930 census, Charles Koenig, 38, Physician in General Practice, and his wife, Pearl, 28, resided on South Negley Avenue, Pittsburgh.
In 1935, Dr. Charles A. Koenig was the senior resident physician at the City Home & Hospitals at Mayview. He was also acting superintendent, following the superintendent's resignation.
Dr. Koenig, 56, was a Neuro-psychiatrist at Mayview State Hospital by 1940. Pearl was listed as Betty Pearl Koenig, age 47, in the census record.
Pearl's sister, Caroline, born in 1887, married Joseph S. Hughes. "Carrie Barringer Hughes" died of ovarian cancer in Woodville State Hospital, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, in 1949. Dr. C. A. Koenig signed the death certificate. Parents are stated as W. D. and Katherine Barringer, both born in Warren, Ohio.
Dr. Charles A. Koenig, born June 24, 1883, died February 26, 1968 in Palm Beach, Florida. He is buried at Oakwood Cemetery, Warren, Ohio. His gravestone says "Captain." He was a First Lieutenant in the Medical Corps during World War I. Later, in the Officers Reserve Corps, he was appointed Captain. His gravestone application states his appointment to Captain was terminated under honorable conditions. - His wife, Betty B. Koenig, of Riviera Beach, Florida, applied for the gravestone. Her signature was Betty P. Koenig.
Betty Pearl's father, William D. Barringer, died in 1937 and he, too, is buried at the Oakwood Cemetery in Warren, Ohio. No doubt, other family members are buried there, including Betty Pearl and her daughter, Gretchen Koenig, but they are not listed online.
Betty Pearl Koenig, died March 25, 1972 at Riviera Beach, Palm Beach County, Florida, at the age of 81.
