Dorothy Banks, born June 15, 1914, was the daughter of James Banks, born in England, and Clara Schork, born in Pittsburgh, residents of Monongahela, Washington County, Pennsylvania. In the 1930 census, Dorothy, 15, had a brother, James, 17, and a sister, Delores, 14.
In 1940, Dorothy Banks, 24, was a Graduate Nurse, residing on Friendship Avenue and working in a hospital - probably St. Francis.
Dorothy Banks married Henry Russell Whitehouse in Covington, Kentucky on March 1, 1946. The marriage was announced by her parents in the newspaper.
In 1948, Dorothy and Henry were living in Washington, D.C., according to a news article that went on to say that, "Mr. and Mrs. Whitehouse recently returned from spending the winter in Miami, Florida, and while there they flew to Havana, Cuba."
Dorothy's mother, Clara Banks, died at home in Monongahela in 1950.
In February 1951, Dorothy and her husband, residents of Rego Park, Long Island, New York, had a baby girl, Susan Jane Whitehouse.
By 1953, Dorothy's father, James Banks, had moved to Long Island, New York to live with Dorothy and her husband, "Hank."
A news article from March 1966 indicates that Dorothy Whitehouse had moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
It appears that Henry R. Whitehouse moved to Dallas, Texas and he and Dorothy divorced in September 1976. He remarried the following month. A Navy Veteran of WWII, he died in 1995 and is buried at Ft. Worth National Cemetery, Dallas.
Dorothy's brother, James Joseph Banks, died in 2004 and his last residence was also Deerfield Beach, Florda.
OBITUARY: Dorothy Whitehouse 104 of Deerfield Beach, FL passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday May 26, 2019, surrounded by her loved ones. Ms. Whitehouse was born on June 15, 1914 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late James Bank and Clara Shork Banks. Ms. Whitehouse grew up in the small town of Monongahela City, Pennsylvania where she attended Monongahela High School Class of 1932 (class of 22 students). Ms. Whitehouse attended St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1936. Ms. Whitehouse married Henry Whitehouse, from this marriage 1 daughter was born, Susan Jane Whitehouse. Ms. Whitehouse had a wonderful career in Allegheny County, Pittsburgh, Pennsyvania. Ms. Whitehouse retired from nursing at age 85. She was a COP (Citizen Observer Patrol) with the Broward Sheriff's Office and was a lover of dogs and animal activist at the Humane Society for the prevention of cruelty to animals. Ms. Whitehouse was also a die heart Miami Dolphin Fan. She will truly be missed.
