She resided at Allendale, Marshall County, WV from about 1948 until shortly before her death. She was a victim of Alzheimer's disease and had been living with her daughter, Ruth, for a few years. For the last couple months of her life, she resided in a nursing home. She died of respiratory failure due to toxic shock, related to infection from an indwelling urinary catheter.
Ossie married Orval Allen Smith, son of George Coleman Smith and Sophronia Jane Henderson, on 18 Sep 1916 in Oakland, Garrett County, Maryland. (Orval Allen Smith was born on 13 Nov 1895 in Hackers Creek, Harrison Co., WV and died on 22 Jul 1975 in West Frankfurt, IL.)
