SAMUEL NEWMAN, Company "B"
Samuel Newman, the son of Abraham and Catharine Newman, was born in Washington County, Pa. At the time of the 1860 census of West Finley Twp., his siblings were William, George and Aaron.
At age 21, Samuel Newman mustered in 1 Mar 1864. His death occurred 6 Sep 1864, at Martinsburg, W. Va., as a result of a gun shot wound to the bowels sustained 5 Sep 1864 in a battle at Bunker Hill, near Martinsburg.
Samuel's father, Abraham, also served in Company "B." He died of chronic diarrhea in General Hospital, York, Pa. 18 Sep 1864. Brother, Aaron, of that company was captured and died in Andersonville, Georgia prison on 16 Jul 1864.
