It appears from the Rolls on file in this office that Eugenus Snodgrass was enrolled on 13 Aug 1862, at Fairmont in Co. F, 12th Regiment of W. Va. Volunteers, to serve 3 years, or during the war, and mustered into service as a private on 27 Aug 1862, at Wheeling, Va... he is reported "Killed in action at Fort Gregg, Va., 2 Apr 1865." The Christian name is variously spelled Eugenous & Eugenus on the rolls.

 On this 5 Oct 1865 before me...personally appeared Uz H. Knight, a resident of Pawpaw Twp., Marion Co., WV, aged 39 years...as guardian of the minor child of Eugeneus Snodgrass, deceased...That he is the guardian of Clinton B. Snodgrass born 14 Nov 1853, whose father was a private in Co. F, commanded by Captain Amos N. Prichard, in the 12th Regt. of WV Vols. in the war of 1861, and that the said Eugenus Snodgrass died at the Battle of Ft. Gregg on or about 1 Apr 1865, by reason of wounds received in Battle. That the mother of the aforesaid child, Ann J. Snodgrass, died 27 May 1862 ...he further declares that the parents of his said ward were married at the residence of Seth Knight, on 1 Oct 1846, by William Hawkins a Justice of the Peace...
