Greenbury T. McCarty was the son of Enoch and Mary (Stigler) McCarty, who made their home in Harrison County. His father, born in Rappahannock county, December 11, 1801, died in 1860 and his mother, also a Virginian, was born January 16, 1805, and died in 1875. Greenbury T. was killed in the battle of Winchester, in June, 1863. His brother, Stephen F., served in Company K of the 1st West Virginia Cavalry. Another brother, Cam. P., was a farmer of Eagle district, Harrison County, West Virginia.
