On this 18th day of March A.D. 1889 personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace in and for the aforesaid County duly authorized to administer oaths Abraham Laizadder aged 76 years, a resident of Fettermans Dist. in the County of Taylor and State of West Virginia, whose Post Office address is Irontown, Taylor Co. WV, well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit and who, being duly sworn, declared in relation to aforesaid case as follows:
I have been a neighbor to claimant all my life and know that he had a son Edward O. and that he went into the service and was killed, he was about 22 years of age when he enlisted and all his income and labor was all prior to enlistment given to his father even after becoming of age which was probably one year before he enlisted, claimant’s other two sons was of age and doing for themselves at the time of his enlistment. Claimant was hurt by falling in building a chimney I believe in 1861, but I cannot remember exactly as to date and he was badly hurt and so much that he has never been the man since that he was before and for past 12-15 years he has not been able for manual labor. And for the past year bedfast part of the time, he is 77 years old and being feeble claimant on account of his affliction has had to sell off a portion of his land on account of his pecuniary circumstances and to help support him in 1864 or any one year since I don’t think his income would be five hundred dollars for year and now at a much less since I am satisfied that his property is getting less year by year yet he has not become an object of charity but of his feebleness, old age and the sacrifice of his son he should be p ??. I also know that as much as twice at least that son Edward O. sent money home to his Father. His land and personal property at forced sale I am satisfied would bring near what it is assessed at , my memory does not recall how much property of given just what it consisted of in 1864.
