Ide Manfred Bartlett, the brother of Erastus, enlisted at Camp Hewes in Clarksburg July 6, 1861, and mustered in there on July 10, 1861. From the records of the W.Va. Adjutant General: "Farmer, born in Marshall Co., W.Va.; Died of disease July 8, 1862, at Middletown, Va.; Drummer." - His Service Record is filed under I. D. Bartlett, obviously because it was written the way it was pronounced. His name is spelled correctly in the Draft Registration record which states his service in "I" 3rd West Virginia Infantry (became 6th Cavalry in Jan. 1864). He and some others were already deceased when the Draft Record was published.

Following the Civil War, Erastus, a Saddler, is found in 1870 residing in Washington County, Maryland. Perhaps he was married at that time because Anna R. Bartlett, 27, is with him. They are living in the home of Daniel A. (illegible), also a Saddler. In 1880, Erastus, single, was in nearby Berkeley County, W.Va., a boarder employed as a Railroad Conductor. He was still in that county in the 1890 Veterans’ Census.

He filed for a pension in 1890 in West Virginia and received Certificate #603189. He died on December 20, 1892 at Martinsburg, Berkeley County, West Virginia. According to his death record, he was a "Justice" and died of Tuberculosis. His widow, "Jennie Bartlett," applied December 28, 1892 in West Virginia and she received Certificate #388984.

Erastus is buried at Norbourne Parish Cemetery, Martinsburg, Berkeley County, West Virginia.
