A note from Ray Anderson, a descendant of Robert J. Anderson's parents, Thomas and Catharine (Wheatley) Anderson, indicates that Robert was born on 15 October 1834 and his middle name was Jackaway, after his great grandfather, Robert Jackaway. (Catherine Wheatley's mother was Mary Jackaway, daughter of Robert Jackaway.)

Robert J. Anderson was Killed in Action at the Battle of Piedmont on June 5, 1864. Initially buried at Meyers Woods, Piedmont, Va., he is now buried in Grave #207 at Staunton National Cemetery, Staunton, Virginia. He is also memorialized on a monument at West Liberty Cemetery, Ohio County, West Virginia.
