OBITUARY--- Joan Othelia Faix, 89, of Shadyside, died Friday, Nov. 18, 2011. Born and raised in Clinton, she graduated from the St. Francis School of Nursing. She worked as an emergency room and operating room nurse at St. Francis Hospital and Doctors' Hospital for many years. Joan was preceded in death her beloved husband, Philip A. Faix, MD; her parents, Gustav A. and Othelia (Lager) Yeager; her sister, Anna Mary Yeager; brother, Gustav A. Yeager Jr; and her daughter-in-law, Noreen Schaefer Faix. Joan is survived by her stepdaughter Bea (Dan) Shields; her stepson; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Joan was a lifelong Steelers fan, a devoted Catholic and will be dearly missed by her friends and neighbors. Friends will be received from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at JOHN A. FREYVOGEL SONS INC., 4900 Centre Ave. at Devonshire St. Funeral Monday, Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Paul Cathedral. Entombment in Calvary Cemetery.
