LOUISE YARNEVICK

Class of 1929

Louise Yarnevick, born in early 1910, was the daughter of Peter Yarnavick (and various surname spellings) and his wife, Mary (Bombac), both Austrian-Croatians, who immigrated in the 1890s. In 1910, the family (spelled Yarnevics) lived in Brownstown, Cambria County, with their children, Peter, Emily [Amelia], Katherine, Anthony, Frank, Mary and Slava (daughter). The father was a coal miner.

The family - spelled Yanovich - is found in the 1920 census with children, Peter, Anthony, Frank, Mary, Louisa, Anna, Sophia and Joseph. Slava in the 1910 census is believed to be Louise/Louisa in the 1920 census. Her older sister, Amelia, graduated in the St. Francis Class of 1922.

Following her graduation in the class of 1929, Louise became employed at the Municipal Hospital in Pittsburgh, according to the 1930 census.

Her sister, Amelia, died March 19, 1956, and her obituary provides information about her siblings. So far, the married name of Louise has not been determined, but from the obituary it was Browne or Clark. - Sister, Sophie, married Martin Scheer: "Scheer, Sophia, 84, of Barre, died Feb. 12, 1998. Born in 1913 in Johnstown, PA, she was the daughter of Peter and Mary (Bombac) Yarnavick. In 1936, she married Martin Scheer. She worked with her husband operating a technical book distributorship in New York and Vermont. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Judith Scheer and Carol Lange; a son, Michael; five grandchildren."
